What a tragic turn of events from last week to this week for Peter.  In last week’s scripture Jesus declares Peter as the rock upon which he will build his church.  Then in these next few verses of Matthew, Jesus confronts Peter and says “Get behind me Satan!”  He reminds Peter that in rejecting what Jesus must go through, Peter is putting his mind not on God, but on man.  How do we walk the path of faith with eyes focused on God, and resist getting caught up in the values and ways of the world?  Our reading in Romans gives us some beautiful steps for this holy path of life.
